Have you ever felt like your real estate business is stuck? Maybe stuck on a plateau. No matter how hard you work, you seem to hit the exact same number of deals month after month, maybe year after year. Most agents in this position say they want a breakthrough. They want rapid growth, high performance, bigger results. There’s nothing wrong with wanting that.

There’s a massive distinction that most people miss. You cannot have a breakthrough until you first break out. A breakout means escaping the mental prison cell that keeps you at your current level of production. The cell isn’t your market. It isn’t your lead source. It isn’t your broker. The cell is the story you tell yourself. Let me walk you through how to break out of it.

Stage one: say yes. The story is the prison. Stories like “I can’t double my business because I only work with buyers.” Or “I don’t have enough time.” Or “I’m just not like those top agents.” Every one of those stories is a locked door you built yourself.

Breaking out begins the moment you stop saying no and start saying yes to a bigger number. The hardest part of growth isn’t the work. It’s making that one decision. When an agent doing 20 deals is challenged to hit 40, their instinct is to explain why it’s impossible. They want to see the whole path before they’ll commit to the first step.

You don’t need to know how you’ll finish before you make a commitment to the goal. Most people fail simply because they never show up to the starting line. A true yes has no fine print. It’s not “yes if my schedule works out.” It’s simply “yes, I’m doing this.”

Stage two: sign up. Once you say yes, you have to turn that intention into action. Think of it like a race. Saying you want to run is an intention. Paying the fee and registering is signing up.

In real estate, signing up means formalizing your commitment. Put the goal on paper. Tell someone. Invite someone to hold you accountable. Share your commitment with an accountability partner or your coach, and then give them permission to check in on you weekly.

Once you sign up, your goal stops being a private wish and becomes a real, measurable commitment. Private wishes are easy to abandon. Public commitments are not.

“You cannot have a breakthrough until you first break out. The cell isn't your market or your broker. It's the story you tell yourself.”

Stage three: check your ego and expectations. One of the biggest obstacles to breaking out is unrealistic comparisons. We look at an agent doing 80 or 100 deals and think, “I could never do that.” Then we use that feeling to justify staying small. That comparison isn’t motivation. It’s a trap.

You have to run your own race. Your path, your pace, and your progress belong to you. Stop judging yourself against someone else’s timeline.

Instead of rigid expectations, start thinking about possibilities. What if you could go from 20 to 40 deals? What if you could be the most consistent lead generator in your office? Possibility thinking reduces the pressure and opens up the space for you to grow. Expectations create anxiety. Possibilities create movement.

Stage four: finishing is the easy part. Here’s the secret that flips everything on its head. Finishing is much easier than starting. Most agents mentally jump straight to the finish line. They get overwhelmed by the scale of it and give up before they start. They see the full distance and talk themselves out of lacing up the shoes.

Once you’ve said yes, signed up, and managed your expectations, momentum takes over. The hardest moment is always at the very beginning. It’s deciding to get out of bed, lace up your shoes, and take the first step.

Think about it. The hardest part of a 90-minute run isn’t minute 89. It’s the 30 minutes before you start, battling the temptation to stay on the couch. In real estate, the hardest part of prospecting isn’t the conversations. It’s picking up the phone at your scheduled time. Once you start, the conversations flow naturally. Winning the day becomes easy when you remove the barriers to starting.

Your breakout starts with three questions:

  1. What goal do you need to finally say yes to?
  2. Who do you need to tell to hold you accountable?
  3. How can you replace your expectations with possibilities?

It contains the core concepts and actionable steps to help you transition from where you are to where you want to be. It’s completely free. Download it here: JULY EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
